Jordan’s surprise proposal at the Watergate Hotel in Washington, DC was months of planning and was exactly what he had hoped it would be. Except, he probably can’t remember most of it.
The great thing about surprise proposals is that even if you know its coming, its always beautiful. Once it finally happens, there is always a burst of relief, excitement, joy, laughter, more relief and love. All of these emotions come at the exact same time and you can see the newly engaged go through and share all of those emotions together in fractions of seconds. It’s one of those experiences where your body and brain react completely on their own. People will commonly say they “blacked out” or it was all a blur when they got engaged or when they propose. It’s one of the most pure and magical moments any one can experience. The feeling of giving and receiving a symbol of love.
Jordan’s proposal wasn’t with out its own bumps along the road. A few delays as here and there as we waited for the perfect date and location. The day of had its own obstacles as we discovered the rooftop for the proposal had been booked out for a private event. We let the event staff know that the hotel had a special place in the hearts of the couple. They allowed us a small window to make a big moment and we made the most of it.
As Jordan proposed, I don’t know if Alona saw me standing a few feet in front of her. Tunnel vision in the moment is a very common symptom. But if she did, i’m sure her attention was on her new ring. Her reaction was a beautiful mix of the emotions I mentioned. I remember asking her if she said “yes “because saying “yes” is a pretty important detail. Between the tears and smiles, she nodded in the affirmative.
