Atrium at Meadowlark Botanical Gardens Spring Wedding

Dan + Claris

Planning for a wedding can seem like the longest and most stressful thing an engaged couple can do. There are so many details that go into perfectly plan and execute a perfect day for you and your partner, as well as trying to create a memorable experience for your guests. When it comes to events of any kind, there are generally two kinds of people: those who plan and those who just show up. I’ve always been a person who’s a planner and working with Claris and Dan was so easy and effortless because they are planners too.

I asked them early during our planning process what was most important to them on wedding they and they really wanted to spend time with their family and join their cocktail hour. It was easy to meet that request by creating a timeline that freed time for their cocktail hour and by having a fantastic vendor team to help things move fluidly. Claris also had an amazing group of bridesmaids who were by her side and made sure she was properly hydrated all day and evening.

Once we got all of the important tasks checked off, Dan and Claris were able to let loose on the dance floor with their friends and an epic set by their DJ.

To those planning their wedding, I hope your wedding day goes as smoothly as theirs. To help get you there, here are a few tips to create an easy wedding day timeline that prepares you for everything.

  • Consult with Your Vendors: Communication is key! Reach out to your photographer, videographer, caterer, and any other vendors involved in your big day. Discuss your vision, preferences, and any specific shots or moments you want captured. Collaborating with your vendors will help streamline the timeline and ensure everyone is on the same page.

  • Plan for Buffer Time: Unexpected delays can happen, whether it's traffic, wardrobe malfunctions, or simply needing a few extra minutes to soak in the moment. Adding buffer time between each scheduled activity can alleviate stress and keep things running smoothly.

  • Consider Your Guests' Experience: Put yourself in your guests' shoes and think about their experience. Avoid long gaps between the ceremony and reception by planning fun activities or providing refreshments during any downtime. A well-thought-out timeline will keep guests engaged and ensure they have a memorable time celebrating with you.

  • Embrace Flexibility: While having a timeline is essential, remember to embrace flexibility. Unexpected changes may arise, and it's essential to adapt and go with the flow. Trust in your vendors and wedding party to handle any last-minute adjustments, allowing you to focus on enjoying every moment of your special day.

  • End on a High Note: As the day draws to a close, plan a memorable moment for everyone. Whether it's a sparkler exit, a grand finale dance or a cozy bonfire with close friends, or even one last grand song and group photo, ending your wedding day on a high note will leave you with cherished memories to last a lifetime.

Creating a wedding day timeline doesn't have to be daunting. By starting early, staying organized, and embracing flexibility, you can craft a seamless schedule that allows you to relax and enjoy every moment of your celebration. Cheers to the smooth beginning of your happily ever after!
