If you have ever seen an engagement session photographed in the Washington, DC area, chances are you’ve seen photos on the National Mall with the Lincoln or Jefferson Monument. If you’re closer to Virginia, you might have seen the iconic cobblestone streets of Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. When it comes to your engagement session, why do something thats already been done? My first recommendation is to always do something that represents you as a couple. A cafe date with cupcakes for the lovers of coffee and sweets. A mountain side hike for the lovers of the outdoors. An afternoon walk with your lovable dog (or cat if you’re daring).
My second recommendation is to not worry about the location either. An engagement session is more about a feeling and the expression of togetherness, celebration and love. To me, people can make any place beautiful. Danielle and Michael proved exactly that with their engagement. The location; seemingly unknown. The sights; unremarkable. But the feeling and the memories; unforgettable.
We walked through downtown Bethesda, Maryland for an outdoor, adventurous, yet totally random engagement session. We were drawn to anything with pops of color, bold lines and patterns that would put an emphasis on the couple. For a session like this, it takes a couple who believes in their photographers direction and creativity. It also takes a photographer who can think abstractly and use pieces of their environment to create a unique portrait.
