Cottage Wedding at the Historic Gramercy Mansion Maryland

Melody + Michail

The most memorable things of wedding day usually are visible and tangible; I tend to remember a kiss or a dance. Dresses, suits, and tokens from wedding day are also things that usually are remembered because of the time spent during fittings, sweating through them, and finally taking them off. What makes weddings unique, especially for Melody and Michail’s summer garden wedding, were the speeches. Family members who could not make the trip surprised the bride and groom with speeches delivered from across the globe. Toasts delivered by the bride’s people and groomsmen were emotional and heartfelt and at times, drew tears from the crowd.

Giving a speech on a wedding day is a tremendous honor but also a great responsibility. A good wedding speech is one that is heartfelt, genuine, and memorable. It should be delivered with confidence, clarity, and a sense of purpose. It leaves a lasting impression on the couple and their guests and in frequent cases, on their photographer as well. I often have to remind myself to keep photographing the emotional and tearful moments i’ve suddenly fallen head-first into.

Wedding day memories can be immensely powerful and at times unforgettable. While some memories may fade over time, others stay with us a long time and feel like they last forever. The same can be said about the history setting of the Gramercy Mansion in Stevenson, Maryland. A summer, cottage wedding was the perfect setting for this day. For this wedding, memories will be plentiful, it also feels like a fitting theme. The overlapping of timelines; history saved and displayed by the mansion; and present wedding emotions and memories. Memories created within memories, all thanks to Melody and Michail.
