The perfect time to have an engagement session is always right now and if you have to ask yourself "should I have one?", the answer is always going to be yes. If it's included in your wedding package with your photographer, don't let it go to waste because you are already paying for it. If it's an add-on or you are doing it separately, it is also worth having for many reasons. Aside from getting comfortable and getting to know you are a photographer, it's a great opportunity to have photographs to use for your save the dates, invites, and any of your wedding related countdowns or social media posts.
For guys, it's a great chance to learn how to be the most photogenic, and natural with your partner. It's also a great time to learn what your good side is and yes, everyone has a good side. For women, they get all of the above benefits as well as getting a chance to trial hair and make up for wedding day.
Having an engagement session also gives you something to look forward to as you are wedding planning. Sometimes couples can be planning a wedding for two or more years and having something in the middle allows you to celebrate and feel like you are getting closer to your wedding day. In the midst of wedding planning, itβs easy to get caught up in the logistics and forget to take a moment to connect with your partner. An engagement session offers a much-needed break. A chance to focus solely on each other and remember why youβre embarking on this journey together. This can be especially meaningful amidst the stress of planning, providing a reminder of the love and excitement that started it all.
Engagement sessions also allow you to do something unique to express your special story. If you and your partner met in college, it would be a great time to throw on your college colors or head back to campus for a school related session. I've seen engagement sessions from football players and cheerleaders who met through sports and later got married and their engagement session was in the football stadium. You'd be how much access you get to places when they know its your engagement session.
Most importantly, it gives you something that you can have but also pass down and share for future generations. It allows you to start building keepsakes and memories that should last wall past after were gone. Its something that you and your future children, friends and family can look back on together.
Hannah and Clint considered all of these factors when planning their session for Meridian Hill Park in Washington DC and later the Spanish steps and it was a no brainer for them. They chose you have a small intimate wedding later on but the memories they captured allowed them to have bigger moments in their love story.
